What do the students do? YWAM Destination Paradise offers a fully accredited Discipleship Training School through the University of the Nations in Kona, Hawaii. Students follow a specifically designed curriculum which greatly exceeds the requirements of the Uof N. The first phase of the program is Lecture Phase (12 weeks aboard the boat). The second phase is Outreach (8 weeks) as a team in a different developing nations (off the boat). The third phase is Internship (16 weeks) in locations chosen based on each student's interest, giftings and passion.During lecture phase, in addition to a full academic schedule (written papers, book reviews, geography and scripture memory, oral presentations, frequent devotions) students attend at least 15 hours of lectures each week given by our visiting speakers, participate in small groups and one on ones with staff, pray many hours each week in intercession, perform work duties and family chores, ministry ashore, personal quiet times and devotions, and occasionally find time to get wet! It is said that going through a DTS program is equivalent to going to church twice a week for 8 years! One of the many unique aspects of this DTS as compared to other DTS programs is that students, staff and speakers live in community 24/7. Learning to get along with others is one of the primary issues that potential leaders face. In fact, 80% of people who leave the mission field for other types of work leave not because the work is too hard or there is not enough money...they leave because they don't get along with the people they work with! We aim to change that stat with our graduates! |
